4th Kings Tournament Game Analysis and San Antonio

21 06 2010

I have just posted a game analysis between Nisipeanu and Radjabov from the 4th Kings tournament here. You can find information about the tournament under the game analysis section.

This past weekend I played in the San Antonio City Championship. I was seeded 9th and was able to get 4/5 points with 3 wins and 2 draws, which was enough to tie for second. Analysis of the games I played there will hopefully be available shortly.

US Championship rapid tiebreaker set for Tuesday morning

25 05 2010

Nakamura lost his game against Shulman and Onischuck lost to Kamsky, making them both mathematically eliminated from winning the tittle. Today, Kamsky and Shulman drew their game, so there will be a rapid tiebreaker Tuesday morning.

I am a little behind on analyzing the games because they take me so long and I am starting final exams at school. Find Nakamura vs. Shulman here and Christiansen vs. Finegold here.

New Game

24 05 2010

I just added a good game between Stripunsky and Christiansen here. Annotating games is taking me longer than I thought it would both in the actual analysis and the time it takes to make sure the format is correct for the blog. Hopefully I will get better and faster at doing this as I analyze and post more games.

The analysis between the Nakamura and Kamsky game has been posted here. I will post 2 more games that I found interesting from round 8 sometime tomorrow while round 9 is going on.

Political battle in Russia over Chess

23 05 2010

Yesterday armed guards from the Kremlin took over the Russian Chess Federation’s headquarters, kicked out the president (physically) and sealed the building along with its documents. This was all under the orders of Arkady Dvorkovich, who presumes himself to have these powers at his disposal. Federation banks accounts and their website were frozen and taken control of. All of this is a reaction to Karpov’s election as the Russian candidate for the FIDE presidency over Ilyumzhinov, Russian incumbent, of which Arkady views as illegal. Allegations have been flying back and forth between both camps and it is hard to determine who is right because of the nuances in the legality of the federation’s actions as a ward of the state. I hope that some of the things about Karpov are not true, as he was World Champion a number of years ago. Find the story at Chessbase and follow some of their links.

Possibly the start of something fun

20 05 2010

With 5 days of school left, 2 AP exams, 3 finals and a Spanish project, this summer seems to be ready to get off to a great start. As it is the last summer before venturing off to college and getting a taste of the real world, I think developing a maintaining a blog on subjects of interests could be beneficial to me and those who are interested in the same subjects as well. This will not be a blog where I spew my emotions or opinions over society (because I have none, and who out there would really care anyway?). I will aim to develop of blog as a means of publication for topics that I learn. In writing about them and making them available to others, I will increase my knowledge and experience and receive criticism that will help me better myself. I will focus on analyzing chess games from Grandmaster chess tournaments throughout the world, so I can better improve my understanding of the game. I will also provide book reviews for chess books (and any other types of books for that matter) to help those out there to decide what books are really worth the price (because frankly, many aren’t). If over time I find that publishing my work is fruitful, then I will also create reviews and lectures for biology and chemistry related subjects for people to learn from. My hope is that by publishing my opinions and observations about chess and science, I will achieve a greater understanding myself, while helping others as well.
